George F. Gjerset MD, Oncology/Hematology
George F. Gjerset MD has expanded his practice to the Cancer Care Center (CCC) at Island Hospital. He sees patients Mondays and Wednesdays at the CCC, located on the lower level of the Medical Office Building, 2511 M Ave., Suite G, Anacortes.
Dr. Gjerset received BA and MD degrees from the University of California, San Diego. He served his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the UC Irvine and at the Long Beach Veterans Administration Hospital.
Further postgraduate training included fellowships in Oncology and Hematology at the University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle.
Prior to locating his oncology practice in the Skagit Valley area, Dr. Gjerset was Staff Oncologist/Hematologist at Evergreen Cancer Center, Kirkland, Wash., and held attending physician positions at Harborview Medical Center and Pacific Medical Center at Providence Hospital in Seattle. He also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Washington's Department of Medicine.
Dr. Gjerset was principal investigator on a National Institutes of Health ROI Grant and on a Transfusion Safety study for the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. He also directed the Institute's Immunologic Standardization Laboratory.

Theodore Kim DO, Hematology/Oncology
Theodore Kim DO received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the State University of New York at Albany. He earned his Masters of Science in Molecular-Cell Biology at West Virginia University, and his Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine (DO) at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Following his Residency in Internal Medicine at Albany Medical Center, he completed a three-year Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
He is currently a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at the University of Washington.
Dr. Kim's laboratory and clinical research experience spans 15 years, including five years investigating breast cancer. He currently sits on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) panel, and helped write the national guidelines for the management of sentinel lymph nodes. As a Fellow, Dr. Kim has conducted research on inflammatory breast cancer, and on breast cancer and malignant melanoma.

Karen Gilbert MN, ARNP
Karen Gilbert MN, ARNP is a nurse practitioner with adult and geriatric certification and additional study in oncology, pain management and palliative care, Gilbert additionally has more than 15 years hospice and home health experience as a registered nurse.
From 1989 through 2002, Gilbert worked as a Hospice and Home Health Nurse in Skagit County, Island County, and throughout the San Juan Islands. She had previously worked as Hospice RN and Case Manager for Hospice of Seattle.
Gilbert received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1987 at the Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education in Spokane, WA. In 2004 she was awarded her Masters in Nursing from the University of Washington School of Nursing, Adult/Older Adult Nurse Practitioner Program. Here, she received numerous awards including the Outstanding Master's Humanitarian Award for 2003-2004 and selection as the student speaker to represent her graduating class.
