Staffed by highly skilled and certified nurses, Island Hospital's Surgery Department provides high-quality inpatient and outpatient surgery. The Surgery Department of Island Hospital thrives on teamwork and takes great pride in the services they perform.

How do we do such great work? Simple. We have great people who are trained in
various areas of the unit. In addition:

  • All patient-care staff are RN's — unusual for a surgical service.
  • All staff members are cross-trained — enabling maximum flexibility.
  • All anesthesias are administered solely by anesthesiologists.

From Newborn to Elderly

Patients of all ages may receive surgical care at Island Hospital — neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. Those surgeries most frequently performed are total joint replacements, arthroscopies, bowel surgeries and endoscopies.

Complex surgeries involving infants and youths with multiple system needs are referred to specialized centers.

Neurosurgical, transplantation and open-heart procedures are not done at Island Hospital.
