Heart Disease: The Importance of Being Aware
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cardiovascular disease causes one out of every three deaths in the United States. About half, 47% of Americans have at least one of the three risk factors for cardiovascular disease, which include: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking. Your risk of getting cardiovascular or heart disease can be reduced by maintaining a healthy diet, exercising a couple times a week, quitting smoking, and going to the screenings offered by Island Hospital.

Island Hospital understands the importance of maintaining a healthy heart and has created a campaign called Beat IT. Beat IT’s purpose is to help people take preventative measures regarding heart disease. Beat IT is a simple, easy to follow, four-step formula that can help you live a healthier life:

Island Hospital promotes Beat IT by using the hashtag #BeatIT. Want to know how you can promote Beat IT? Help by spreading the word! Let us know if you are participating in the Beat IT campaign by using the #BeatIT hashtag. You can use it on Facebook to inform your friends and family about the preventative measures they can take. Be proactive and attend our screenings:
– Blood pressure screening: Every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Health Resource Center
– Cholesterol screening: January 23, 2018 and April 10, 2018 from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Health Resource Center
After attending the screenings, post about your experience and use the hashtag, #BeatIT!
