The Island Hospital Employee of the Month for October is Nurse Educator Kathleen Horr RN.

Kathleen started at Island Hospital working in the Emergency Department and recently transitioned to the position of nurse educator. One of Kathleen’s first steps as a nurse educator was the Annual Nursing Skills Day – a huge project involving all nursing staff. In addition, Kathleen has taken on two other large projects: educating nurses on the new automated medication-dispensing machines and re-structuring our Code Blue protocols. She is recognized as making these projects a success with her excellence, commitment and ability to look at a complex process and break it down to a clear step-by-step process. Her supervisor notes that, “Kathleen is positive, energetic and knowledgeable. She successfully communicates and collaborates with managers and staff from all departments. We thank you Kathleen for all you do!”

Since her arrival in 2007, Kathleen has characterized Island Hospital’s Promise to consistently provide the best customer service to our patients, families, guests and colleagues. Congratulations and thanks for being an inspiration, Kathleen!
