Island Hospital, in coordination with the National Guard, will be conducting a HazMat drill on Monday, April 22 on the Island Hospital campus. The exercise will begin at 8 a.m. and will test hospital staff and emergency management crews’ readiness for a major chemical spill. Visitors and patients to the hospital will notice a large tent setup in the Medical Arts Pavilion parking lot along with extra activity on campus. However, the drill will not affect normal activity at the hospital. Organizers expect the drill to conclude around 4 p.m. All participants will be identified as members of the drill team and signs will be posted to notify real patients that an exercise is in progress. Please contact Barb LeDuc at (360) 588-2086 if you have additional questions.
